The Wonder Of Light

This summer we were introduced to professional grade light therapy.  At first, we were mostly interested in using it in combination with micro-needling and our She Mind Body facial products to treat fine lines and wrinkles and enhance collagen production. What we discovered is that it can be used for so much more and it is now something we are incorporating into many more of our acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) sessions. It’s a true blend of NASA backed research blended with 5000 year old practices.

From pain to hair loss, acne to seasonal affective disorder, low level light therapy can help with them all.  What is it that makes this treatment so effective?

Low level light therapy, also known as biophotomodulation, is the application of specific wavelengths of light over parts of the body.  Photons from the light get absorbed into the mitochondria of the cell, causing an elevation of ATP synthesis resulting in a cascade of changes which cause fibroblast cells to produce collagen and elastin.

The wavelengths are inside and just outside the visible light spectrum and are the ones most readily absorbed by the skin.  The shorter wavelengths are blue and can be used to treat acne by destroying bacteria closer to the surface of the skin, while the longer wavelengths create red and near infrared light that penetrate deeper and are good for treating fine lines, wrinkles and reducing inflammation to treat pain.  This benefit is enhanced when light therapy is used in conjunction with micro-needling, cosmetic acupuncture and natural skincare like She Mind Body.

We are loving the award winning Celluma lights we use in our practices.  Our clients tell us how relaxed the light makes them feel and even more exciting is that the lights stimulate micro-circulation, increase lymphatic drainage, reduce inflammation and build collagen and elastin. This not only delays the signs of aging, but also delays actual aging internally.
